Veritas NetBackup 8.1.2 Installation on CentOS 7.3 Linux


NetBackup 8.1.2 new features:

NetBackup 8.1.2 introduces a new web user interface

NetBackup 8.1.2 lets you manage NetBackup with a new web user interface (UI). Additional features and workloads will be added in each upcoming release. Currently with this interface you can:
·         View jobs
·         Configure protection plans
·         Manage security settings and host management
·         Manage role-based access control for the web UI
·         Protect and recover the VMware and Cloud workloads (using CloudPoint integration)
·         Configure email notifications for alerting
To start the NetBackup web UI:
·         Open a web browser and go to https://masterserver/webui/login.

Veritas Smart Meter helps you manage deployment more efficiently

Veritas Smart Meter helps you to manage your NetBackup deployment more efficiently, spot trends, and plan for the future. With accurate, near real-time reporting, it reveals the total amount of data that is backed up. Smart Meter alerts you if you are close to exceeding your licensed capacity limits. Customers must be at NetBackup 8.1.2 and later to use Smart Meter.

VxUpdate replaces LiveUpdate

VxUpdate replaces LiveUpdate in NetBackup 8.1.2. With this release of VxUpdate, you can now:
·         Upgrade any client platform from any master server platform.
·         Install client EEBs.
·         Schedule upgrades, pre-check, and staging (download packages) separately.
·         Run ad-hoc upgrades using the GUI or from the client itself.
·         Track upgrades through parent and child jobs in the Activity Monitor.

Netbackup 8.1.2 Master Server Installation:

1. Extract the NetBackup 8.1.2 source 
It is comes with tar.gz format.
Using the following command extract the source. In that source, netbackup is providing the installation script.


2. Creating Group and user for Web Services:

Create a group nbwebgrp and user nbwebsvc and set password for the user.


  3. Execute the install script in the extracted source directory. This install script do the pre-install check list and then it run as an interactive method of Installation.





It will initiate the install analysis tool, to check the pre-install requisites.
Acknowledge this server as Master Server.
In this, The script will install the Master Server and EMM server components.

If it is a Master server then it will use the nbwebsvc user web for web management console access.



Now the script is checking for the required system conditions and recommended system conditions.

You need Customer Registration key file for this installation.

Login to veritas smart meter and download the customer registration key for your account.



Default location for the installation files /usr/openv



Enter the License key to proceed the installation.



Set the host name of the Master Server.



It will install both Master and EMM server components.

For NetBackup Catalog, SQL Anywhere DB is installed automatically.








Now Installation Completes successfully.
Set the DR passphrase for Catalog backups.


Now Login to NetBackup Admin Console.

Media Server Installation:

Extract the Netbackup source.



Run the netbackup install interactive script.




Specify this server is not a Master server Role.


 It will check the pre-install requisites.



Set the Host Name of the Media Server and Specify the Master Server Name also.




From NetBackup 8.x onward, you need a CA is required for Media and Client installation.
It check from Master server and get the Certificate.





Once you accept the certificate, then you need a authorization token.
Create a token from the master server and copy the token value here.





After entering the auth.token then it will start the media server components.



Installation done successfully.
