Clustered Data Ontap 9 NFS and iSCSI Storage Deployment on VMware vSphere 6

NFS and iSCSI Storage Deployment on VMware vSphere 6:


1. Login to NetApp Oncommand System Manager.




2. Create volume for NFS share.



3. Volume got successfully created.



4. For all data communication (NAS and SAN), needs a LIF with data role. Create a network LIF with role of data.


5. Check the NFS license was added.


6. Check the NFS service would be enabled or not.



7. Now create an export policy for NFS share.



8. Now change the export policy information in volume.


9. Once the export policy was added to the volume.


10. Now login to vSphere 6.0 client tool.


11. Now go to configuration tab and storage. Go to add storage.


12. Select the NFS option.



13. Then add the cluster data LIF and Volume mount point information. Add the data store name also.



14. Now you can able to see the new NFS data store is added to vsphere 6 from netapp.



iSCSI Configuration:

1. Check the iscsi license.



 2. Create a volume with the required size.


3. Volume successfully created.


4. Now get the iscsi iqn addess from the vSphere.

 5. Then create a LUN.


6. Add LUN name, OS type and Size.


7. Select or create a volume.



8. Next add an iscsi initiator group.


9. Add the initiator group name and protocol information like iscsi or FC/FCOE.



10. Add the IQN address of Vsphere6 server.





11. Once the Initiator Group successfully created, now map a LUN to the initiator Group then only the host able to access the LUN.




12. Now LUN is mapped to the Initiator Group.


13. Then access from the vSphere server. Add the Netapp LIF and port number is 3260.


14. Once the target portal is added, it will discover the attached LUN.


15. Create new data store.


16. Select the LUN.



17. Specify the Data store name.


18. Successfully iscsi data store is added from NetApp Cluster 9.
